A Review: Kelp Hairdressing at Bondi Beach (c/0 Kelp Hairdressing) with Royal Aquamarine

As many of my readers have noticed by now, I have moved on from a chocolate brunette with bangs to a light auburn brown hair, blonde highlights and a side fringe. I really like this change, the colour is fresh and I can see my forehead and eyebrows.

Growing out my bangs has been a little awkward and when I walked into Kelp Hairdressing, the owner Roz knew exactly how to prep my hair for the latter stages of growing out my bangs.

Kelp Hairdressing is a Bondi Beach locally owned business run by Roz and has been around for over 20 years facing the iconic calm waters we call Bondi Beach. Rose is really friendly and very talented in her line of work, she takes the time and care to understand your hair history and then styles the hair to grow out beneficially in the future.

Roz works with iconic hair lines - Evo, REF., Moroccano and American Crew.
Roz worked some wonderful REF. shampoo and conditioner into my hair and because my hair has been dyed (and fried) she also applied a one minute Repair treatment. My hair came out refreshed and silky.

As Roz cut my hair, it was really relaxed and we talked about our jobs, the salon, and the local areas. Dogs and their owners walked past and Roz was so excited for each and every furry creature, that was fun.

Roz cut my bangs out skilfully, and explained to me that cutting my bangs section by section will teach it to grow out naturally and more shapely. I've never been told this advice before and it gave me hope. Roz then reshaped my hair. When it came to drying my hair, Roz suggested I go with some messy yet relaxed beach waves:
To do this she twisted my hair in sections and ran a hot blow dryer up and down. She kept the hair in a twist as she did the rest, to encourage more curl. Then going over the twisted sections with a hair dryer diffuser to create soft volume. When she let the curls loose, my hair sat in messy tossled waves - something I found hard to achieve back at home. I really loved it.

Vinson, owner of Royal Aquamarine sunglasses felt peckish so he went out to visit Bondi's Best Seafood and grabbed the best fish and chips I've ever had - crunchy chips with four generous servings of fish with a special batter. I highly recommend all foodie bloggers to make their way down there.

Kelp Hairdressing collaborates with some great Australian companies as well, such as Royal Aquamarine. Royal Aquamarine makes some amazing sunglasses that come in classic designs in beautiful shapes and colours and Kelp stocks their latest range. I tried on their sunnies as I showed off my new hair. And as a in-store special, Royal Aquamarine are offering $40 discount off any pairs of sunglasses with any haircut & blow-dry at Kelp Hairdressing. That is an amazing deal.

Thanks so much to Roz from Kelp Hairdressing and Royal Aquamarine. Not only did I walk out with an amazing haircut, I also had some great hair-education and sunglasses to go with it. <3

My Music Playlist for Valentine's Day

#1 Thirsty Merc - Someday Someday
#2 Norah Jones - Turn Me On
#3 Donell Jones - Knocks me Off my feet (Stevie Wonder cover)
#4 Elton John - Your Song
#5 Frank Sinatra - Moon River
#6 Lyndel David Hall - All You Need Is Love (The Beatles cover)
#7 The Beach Boys - Don't Worry Baby
#8 Brian McKnight - The Only One For Me
#9 Lifehouse - You and Me
#10 The Temptations - My Girl

My first relationship has always been with music. I have an extensive knowledge for it and it always there for me through the good times and the bad times. I'm sure many of you can relate! My post today is about my favourite love songs. There are alot of songs sung about love but when you really think about it most of it portrays feelings of heartbreak, confusion, sadness, loss and unrequited love. Do you know how hard it really is to find a song about positivity in love and dedication and loyalty? It makes me wonder if artists must find it easier to express sadness rather than happiness.

So first off, one of my all time favourite songs is by Australian band Thirsty Merc and their song 'Someday Someday' and to me it's a sweet song about a man declaring his love to his girl and giving her hope for the future despite their youthful struggles. I always perk up when I hear this song especially since its been played during some special moments in my life most recently.
Norah Jones' 'Turn Me On' was featured in my all time favourite movie 'Love Actually' and it plays the moment Sarah and Karl slow dance at their staff party. They let their walls down for the first time (especially Sarah) and they become tender and affectionate, falling in love as the song plays.
Donnel Jones' 'Knocks me off my feet' was one of the first R&B love songs I heard while I was young and has resonated with me ever since. It's just so simple and full of devotion. Although Stevie Wonder's original is really good, something about Donnel's voice really brings it home for me.
Elton John's song 'Your Song' is just amazing to me. I love the simple harmony between Elton's vocals, lyrics and his piano.
I'm not too sure where I first heard Frank Sinatra's 'Moon River' but its one of those songs that makes you want to travel to other worlds. I did hear the song in the movie 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' a couple of years ago, but I found it didn't sit right. Frank's voice really carries the song and brings it to life.
I've always loved Lyndel David Hall's 'All You Need is Love' and his soulful approach to The Beatles' song. It was also featured in 'Love Actually'; the moment Juliet and Peter walk down the aisle after being married and it always brings tears to my eyes. God dammit, I wish a moment like that happened to me.
The Beach Boys - 'Don't Worry Baby' is just a positive one that makes me feel relaxed and puts me in a good mood every time I hear the soothing melody and vocals. The same goes for 'You & Me'by Lifehouse. That song pulls at my heart strings by the time I hear the chorus... putting into my head a scene of two people being in love and enjoying each others company in comfortable silence.
Brian Mcknight's 'The Only One for Me', I used to listen to all the time when I was younger and going through young heartbreak. I found Brian's voice so soothing it put me at peace when I was sad and lost.
Then last but not lease, The Temptation's 'My Girl'. How I wish someone wrote this song about me especially since I am in love with Motown songs. It has the perfect riff and group vocals. The lyrics' 'When it's cold outside, I've got the month of May' is very special to me because my birthday is in the middle of May (Is this song written especially for me?). This song epitomises everything I think love should be like - sweet, gleeful, simple and possibly a little corny.

I also have a playlist for those other types of feelings like unrequited love, asking for forgiveness, loss of love, heart break and the torture of being in love (oh how I know those feelings so well). But today it's all about positivity so I hope these songs resonates with you guys, my lovely readers. Even though I haven't exactly found my own Prince Charming as per se, its nice to sometimes dream about it in the comfort of this music.

A Recipe: Toblerone Chocolate Chip Cookies (variation of Donna Hay's 'The New Classics' recipe, Chocolate Chip Cookies)

Happy Valentine's Day my readers! As a way of showing my love for my friends and family this year, I decided to bake some red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing as well as some of these bad boys. Warm and gooey chocolate chip cookies with Toblerone pieces.

Toblerone Chocolate Chip Cookies (makes 22)

1 cup (175g) brown sugar
3/4 cup (165g) white sugar
150g unsalted butter, softened
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 egg
1 1/2 cups (225g) plain (all-purpose) flour, sifted
1/2 teaspoon table salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder, sifted
400g Tolberone chocolate, chopped

Preheat oven to 160*C (325*F). Place the brown and white sugars, butter and vanilla in an electric mixer and beat for 8-10 minutes or until pale and creamy. Scrape down the sides of the bowl and add the egg, beating well to combine. Add the flour, salt and baking powder and beat, on low speed, until a dough forms.
Fold through the Toblerone chocolate. Roll 2 tablespoons of the dough at a time into balls, and flatten slightly. Place on lightly greased baking trays lined with non-stick baking paper, allowing room to spread. Bake for 17-20 minutes or until golden. Allow to cool on trays.

Easy Peasy cookies and you can make them even more special by wrapping it in pink and white tissue paper and some twine. Happy Valentine's! <3

My Valentine's Day Gift Guide 2014

My Valentine's Day Gift Guide 2014: #1 Royal Aquamarine's Kelly Sunglasses in Fairy Floss; #2 Fresh Flower's Gifts, Flowers and Bouquets; #3 Emu Australia; #4 Katerina Nis Lingerie and Sleepwear;  #5 Code Love Jewellery; #6 Moi Self's Helpful Hankies; #7 Style Tread Shoes special Valentine's Day Promotion

Here is my Valentine's Day Gift Guide for 2014. All you lucky gals out there who have boyfriends right now can definitely look forward to some wonderful gifts. I on the other hand will gracefully gym that day (leg day) and wear my red dress from Persun into work as I work that night and most likely eat pork roll with all my friends after shift.

As always, I am a sucker for the colour pink so I have, of course, searched far and wide to collect as many pink items for Valentine's Day. Firstly, I am super excited to announce that Royal Aquamarine will be releasing their second season of Sunglasses to the world. And of course, these fairyfloss pink Kelly sunglasses caught my eye. Perfect amount of chic, pick and elegance and these would be released soon in March but can pre-order now.
The second item is of course, a beautiful bouquet of flowers from Fresh Flowers. Fresh Flowers are an Australian online florist that can deliver straight to your door. A girl's heart will instantly melt once they see these roses show up at their doorstep.
Third, even though I am displaying the children's warm boots (they are tooo cute!) Emu Australia have some snuggly shoes and apparel for the upcoming winter this year. Absolutely beautifully crafted, coming in classic boot styles and cute animals designs like zebras, lions and ladybugs.
Forth, Katerina Nis is a Sydney based Lingerie and Sleepwear designer with some really cute pieces for the bedroom. The items are soft to the touch and comes in pinks and reds, perfect to enhance the femininity of a woman.
Coming in at fifth, Code Love is a jewellery line based on the design of Morse Code, incorporating original codes into the design, mixing it in with leather and gold plated pieces. My favorite is the bracelet pictured in the guide as it spells the word LOVE.
Sixth, Moi Self has created a really quirky way to celebrate Valentine's, or an 'anti-Valentine's' (aka me myself and I this year) and this gift is perfect your your gal best friend or that single friend this year. Each hanky displays a cute message on each which sends a positive message on Valentine's.
And last but not least, Style Tread has come up with a wonderful promotion this year for this day. From the 13th to the 15th February, there are special discounts for items that display a little heart in the corner. When you place these ticket items into cart, you get to find out what special discount you get off the item. It's a nice little surprise for us gals on Valentine's.

Well there's my gift guide for 2014. I myself don't expect a present this year, but I know hundreds of girls out there will, and I'll definitely try my best not to envy them at all (!!).

Happy Valentine's!
